Where do we go from here?

I want to thank the many people who have written in response to out inquiries about the "Old Farm Collie." I am sending out this bulletin to provide something of a "status report" to all who have contacted us regarding this project.

We have received many positive comments on the article, "Whatever Happened to Old Shep?" and other notices we have placed in our attempt to discover more about the present status of the old-fashioned farm collie. To date, however, very little has come to light as to possible sources for these dogs. Many people have written expressing their interest in the old-fashioned collie and their desire to obtain one. Some writers mentioned having had these dogs at one time. (As I had found earlier, the '50s seem to be the last time old-fashioned farm collies were around in any numbers). A few responses mentioned possible leads, but the follow-up is still underway. There also has been some contact with English Shepherd breeders, as this breed appears to be the closesst to the old-fashioned collie and many consitder it to be the same breed.

At this point, I would like to begin a discussion of possible moves that might be considered in the endeavor to reestablish the Old Farm Collie.

1. To date, as indicated above, few definite leads have developed as to where any old-fashioned collies are being bred. Ther is, however, much interest in the old-fashioned collie. Inquiries still are being made and responses continue to be received. Should we continue on this path for a time yet, before making any further moves?

2. Should we begin to make definite plans for establishing a formal club and consider what will need to be done to accomplish this?
