In the last bulletin, information was provided regarding Tracy of Fordwich, a CKC-registered Rough Collie of old-fashioned type, and the Farm Shepherds or Farm Collies of J. Richard McDuffie in South Carolina, represented by Dunrovin Ole Shep.
Tracy has now been acquired by Marcia Weed in Michigan. Tracy's new owner and her sister, Gina Bisco in New York, are presently researching Tracy's background and investigating potential mates. They are interested in finding dogs that, like Tracy, are AKC or CKC registered but of old-fashioned type, and working within those lines; some possibilities have already come to light. Additional information can be obtained from Gina Bisco gsbisco@mailbox.syr.edu.
A puppy of the McDuffie line has been acquired by a list member in Oregon, Val Dambacher, and is growing up on her ranch. This dog is now a year old and helping out with the livestock. She will both herd the sheep, and stay quietly with them, guarding them. She is a very intelligent dog, with a bit of an independent streak, very sound in health and temperament. More information can be obtained from Val Dambacher and of course from Richard McDuffie. (Some of these dogs appear to have the hunting side more developed than the herding side, depending on the individual strains within the line.) Tom Maxwell has located some English Shepherds in the midwest of a strongly collie-like type. There are plans for one of these dogs to be bred to one of Erika DuBois' old-fashioned farm collies in Nova Scotia. Further information can be obtained from Tom Maxwell and Erika DuBois.
