Breeding Program to Restore an Old-fashioned-Type Collie

Laura Lee of New Haven, Vermont, is trying to recreate the turn of the century "Scotch" Collie. She has done this by breeding an ASCA registered Australian Shepherd (Tubby) to AKC collies. The first sire, Bosco, produced three litters of collie looks and temperament. The second sire, Kaiser, produced pups with a more pronounced Aussie edge. Laura is now using Angus, one of the Bosco pups, to continue her breedig program. She plans to breed Angus this spring to an AKC Collie. Angus has a very lovely look and temperament. The cross back to the AKC Collie should refine the look a little and maintain the old collie nature. Laura's goal could best be described as more: more head, more eye (as in size, not in BC-type "eye"), more bone and muscle, more brain, more stop, more everything. She is not particularly interested in intense working ability as she says, "Old Shep's my ideal, who of course would get the cows, but did not spend all day chasing cars when there were no cows to get)."
